Your Computer Cant Keep Time | Computers and Technology

A computer needs a certain amount of information to operate; for example, the date and time, the amount of memory installed, the number of drives and their configuration, and so on. In the early days of computers, either the user typed in this information each time the computer started, or it was set using DIP switches and jumpers. Today, computers store this information in a CMOS chip that uses a small battery to retain the information when the computer is shut off.

CMOS (complementary metal oxide semiconductor) is type of chip that consumes very little power; therefore, while the computer is turned off, the battery discharges very slowly. But the battery will totally discharge if you leave your computer turned off for a year or so. Even if you turn your computer on every day, the battery is designed to last only a couple of years. Occasionally a battery will fail prematurely.

Today?s plug-and-play computers can detect most of the necessary settings, but if your CMOS battery is dead, your computer will not be able to retain the date and time. The computer will also lose any custom settings, for example, the boot sequence. If you set a password in CMOS, you may be locked out of the computer. If the CMOS battery does fail, you might receive the message ?System Configuration Lost? when you start the computer. It would be wise to record all the CMOS settings as a precaution.

To record the CMOS settings, watch for an on-screen prompt when you first start your computer. The prompt tells you to press a key, usually the Del or F2, to enter CMOS. To enter the CMOS configuration utility, you have to press the indicated key while the message is on the screen. After the CMOS configuration screen appears, follow the instructions provided to page through all the screens and record all the settings.

If your computer loses its time setting overnight, the CMOS battery may not be holding a charge. The CMOS battery is located inside the

case on the motherboard. Changing the battery is usually a job for a computer technician. In fact, a layman might not even be able to find the battery.

If you want to locate the CMOS battery in your computer, be aware that a static discharge from your hands can damage components inside the case. After taking proper precautions, open the case and look on the motherboard for a battery. If you have a diagram of your motherboard, locate the battery on the diagram first.

Different motherboards use different types of batteries. The battery may be shaped like a barrel or a coin. Some motherboards use a component that resembles a chip which contains the CMOS and the battery (made by DALLAS or Benchmarq). Batteries come in different voltages, so make sure you get an exact replacement.

Sometimes the battery is mounted in a holder. Sometimes it is soldered to the motherboard. De-soldering and re-soldering a battery is usually a job for a computer technician. An inexperienced solderer can cause a lot of damage. If you want to try to do it yourself, first practice on an obsolete circuit board. You may change your mind.

If the CMOS battery has failed because it?s too old, this might be an opportunity to upgrade your motherboard. When upgrading a motherboard, the most important considerations are to make sure the new motherboard is the correct form factor for your case, and that the new motherboard has the correct bus connector slots for your expansion boards.

Your five Requirements to pick Travel Internet sites On your Travel Planning

With the entire world currently gets to be a world-wide market, travel is increasingly turning out to be the main exercise that individuals accomplish on a regular basis. Built with speedy net puncture from travel locations around the globe, individuals are producing travel agreement online.

Besides the above about three travel and leisure web sites, there are several sites which concentrate into various market place niches.

Such as the phrase 'don't place all your ovum to the very same gift basket,' selecting one particular travel sites for all your travel requires will be pointless. You should get the best internet site that meets the goal. In fact, levels of competition are always advantageous regarding buyers.

Precisely what issue when you consider prior to moving to the a single travel site? Below are a few conditions that you can contemplate when picking travel web sites:

A single. Objective

If you take one step aback somewhat and ask yourself your overall travel predicament, you should be able to find out what the real aim are at that point.

For example, when through getaway a person unexpectedly get news that particular of your respective shut relatives only passed away and you need to be right now there the fastest possible way, how do you help make your travel set up?

Would you still head to priceline.net and bid to the least expensive cost - or perhaps strike pertaining to ticket at lastminute.net right away? Travel sites focuses primarily on the lowest fare about highest taker scenario, therefore it will take some while for top level cope. Nonetheless, in case you head to travel and leisure, you will be able to have the most affordable fare with the eleventh hour.

Below some other situations, putting in a bid through travel and leisure may be more inviting compared to travel and leisure.

Forget about acquiring directly from the actual air travel organization. It costs far more for them to serve you buy * customer service, promoting, routine maintenance and all the income over head tend to be accrued to fulfil your purchase. This specific equals higher admission cost regarding customers.

However, travel sites acting as admission middle men bought seat tickets from at wholesale prices cost. They're in competition to travel sites to draw in you to their own web sites. A lot more competitors equals an improved pocket with regard to clients.

2. Region

Next idea is about the land you are visiting. Each region carries a specialised as well as national travel internet sites in which focus on people from other countries.

By way of example, in the event you travel on the The uk or London, the nation's travel relationship offers unrestricted admittance move to check out many destinations from a single price tag. In the event that havenrrrt heard of this provide and purchase tickets with a quantity of self-sufficient internet sites, you're certain to spend more money, moment and hassle.

On other instances, in the event you travel for you to not familiar building countries exactly where commercial infrastructure isn't as enough, it is advisable to generate your current design by way of a trustworthy country wide agency who's long been running a business.

Three. Credibility

Acquiring online it's essentially similar to getting traditional. The real difference will be safety and comfort. If you are know the convenience, I am going to describe regarding safety.

Online travel sites have to be risk-free and honest. That's not me referring to fraud just. Via coping with campaign, income process in order to customer care, the corporation has to be in a position to illustrate its power throughout conducting business online.

I'd personally typically try to find Better Business Bureau (Better business bureau) sign, investigate the length of time to remain operational, just what assure, conditions and issues that the corporation keeps prior to obtaining on a single travel website.

Another sign can be looking at customer testimonails from others. Whilst they might be orchestrated, looking at testimonails from others is a superb strategy to see the products and companies with the company.

4. Personal savings

For budget-conscious consumers, saving money in airfare is undoubtedly a get. The best advice would be to prepare the travel strategies by move forward. Reap the benefits of rates assessment websites or recurring promotions through each and every travel websites.

Even so, if you are on the moment or perhaps budget limitation, understanding what web site to standard coming from is going to be advantageous. Yet again determined by your situation, An excellent opportunity you start with travel and leisure and put money for the cheapest price. In concurrent, you'd probably check out particular niche markets web sites like travel sites to buy about regarding solution prices.

Pertaining to enterprise flyers although, these are happy to spend a greater fee because of their admission cost. Enterprise clients usually travel through monday to friday and help to make eleventh hour preparations. Your flight organizations realize this particular?: that's why very last minute seats are very pricey.

A few. Uniqueness

The final important factor to pick the top travel sites is the place where distinctive these are, weighed against various other sites.

A few internet sites are more user-friendly and useful; some others are incredibly clunky nevertheless expert. Obtaining the thing that makes every single site ticks can play nicely in your choice.

Use of travel guide as well as website is also essential in my opinion. It demonstrates the organization cares adequate not only to offer the top charged seat tickets, but also the best complete value knowledge.

To summarize, selecting travel sites that fit your unique travel circumstance is very important. Due to a higher competitors, customers will see the best worth on their dream travel experience. Taking the time to know which in turn web site is nice at which niche will be beneficial in equally small and end.

What is recovery? [Android A to Z]

What is recovery?  In Android, recovery refers to the dedicated, bootable partition that has the recovery console installed.  A combination of key presses (or instructions from a command line) will boot your phone to recovery, where you can find tools to help repair (recover) your installation as well as install official OS updates.  Because Android is open and has the recovery source code available, building a customized version with more and different options is relatively easy as well.  Let's look at both options.

The stock recovery is pretty limited, but that's by design.  Its main purpose is to delete all user data and files, or to perform system updates.  Normally, both these operations are started from the running Android system, or you can do things manually and boot right into recovery yourself.  When you tell your phone to do a factory reset, recovery is what boots up and erases the files and data.  Likewise with updates -- when we restart to install an official OS update, it's done in recovery.  Recovery is also where we go to manually install official OS updates we've downloaded from the Internet.  It's very useful, but limited.

Custom Android recoveries offer much more.  They have been coded to allow for backup and restore functions, selective deletion of data so you don't have to wipe everything, and modified to allow update packages that have not been digitally signed by official sources.  You also can mount various partitions so that you can copy files to the SD card without having to remove it or reboot into Android. Anytime you see someone mentioning Clockwork or Amon Ra, they're talking about custom recoveries.  Because of the extra functionality built in, they are a pretty important tool for folks who want to hack their Android phone or tablet.  Recoveries aren't as pretty as a custom ROM and don't get the same love from users and bloggers that custom builds of Android do, but in the end they're even more important. Without them none of this custom ROM stuff would be possible.
